This Calls for a Good Cup of Coffee!

I’ve been working on a short story for an anthology on Time Travel. I wrote the first draft fairly quickly. Then, I sent it to my editor and was overwhelmed by the individual suggestions. I took a couple of deep breaths and began working on revising it. I made some major changes in the beginning. Then, the last three weeks before the deadline, I fought through writer’s block. On a story that was just short of 20K, I was scraping by on most of those days with about 400 words per day. I dealt with impostor syndrome and wondered why I was even working on this story. I got to the last few days, while I was traveling, and needed to write a big chunk of the ending. It was too late to send off to my editor so my wife looked through it and made some notes about needed changes. I had to do formatting work, with about an hour left after I got home from traveling. The plane was late. 30 minutes late. I rushed to make the final formatting changes and submitted the story about 3 minutes after the deadline. The editor showed grace. Then, word came down tonight. My story was included in the anthology. Given the number of submissions and the high quality, according to the editor, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. The title of my submission: Coffee Time.
